Compensation: $28.48 - $28.48/hr.

Skookum is seeking a dedicated and reliable Heavy Truck Driver with a positive attitude. This individual will operate tractors and semi-trailers, tractors and full trailers, trucks with dolly converters, full trailers, and other vehicles at NAS Whidbey Island.  This is a temporary position and is expected to run up to but no longer than one year of hire.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

• Heavy trucking may consist of operation of tractors and semi-trailers, tractors and full trailers, trucks with dolly converters, and full trailers. Included is the transportation of heavy construction equipment and transporting of overweight and oversized loads.   Included is refuge and roll-on/roll-off trucks.

• The Tractor trailer Driver will also provide medium trucking service, such trucking shall be for trucks less than 24,000 lbs.

• Perform cargo delivery as assigned.

• Perform preventative maintenance on assigned equipment.

• Ensure equipment is fully operational before each shift.

• Clean the vehicle and service the vehicle with fuel.

• Keep accurate trip logs.

• Maintains radio or telephone contact with base or supervisor to receive instructions or be dispatched to new location.

• Keeps record of materials and products transported.

• Secures cargo for transportation.

• Maintain preventive maintenance and repair records.

• Read and understand drawings, work plans and maps.

• Maintain professionalism in both appearance and demeanor.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 3 years’ experience as Truck Driver.

• Excellent customer service skills with a ‘can-do’ attitude. 

Physical Requirements:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis. 

• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.

• May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.

• Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.

• Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.

 Requirements:

• Must currently hold valid, state CDL Class ‘A’ driver license.  Must pass DOT pre-employment drug screen. 

• Must be able to obtain and maintain approval to operate a vehicle by Skookum’s insurance carrier.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access. A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position.
