Compensation: $36.21 - $36.21/hr.

Skookum is seeking a dedicated and reliable Heavy Equipment Mechanic with a positive attitude. This individual will be responsible for analyzing malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds and maintains power equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic tools. to providing a safe and respectful work environment to our employees.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

• Performs maintenance of equipment to include, but not limited to, wheeled vehicles, track vehicles, engineer equipment, power generation, and material handling equipment.

• Accomplish minor repairs and perform services as outlined in established technical manuals.

• Perform inspection and repair on brakes, suspension, wheels, hubs and steering systems.

• Understand and follow technical manuals, lube orders, wiring and hydraulic schematics to ensure proper diagnosis and repair during annual services.

• Perform major repair jobs by disassembling and cleaning parts, removing components, removal and installation of assemblies and installation of components.

• Welds broken parts and structural members, may direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment, and may repair, adjust and maintain mining machinery, such as stripping and loading shovels, drilling and cutting machines, and continuous mining machines

Qualifications: 

• Minimum 5 years’ experience as an Automotive Mechanic with Diesel experience.

• ASE Certification or must be in the process of testing for ASE certification.

• Experience with mobile crane maintenance, Tier IV exhaust, advanced diagnostics, hydraulics, and Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) preferred.

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis. 

• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.

• May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.

• Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.

• Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.

Requirements:

• Valid state driver’s license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Skookum’s insurance carrier. 

• Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access. A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position.

• Valid CDL—Class B Required.
