She'll be in the ballroom at Best Western Plus in Oak Harbor on Wednesday\, April 19 at 7:00 p.m.\, and at Freeland Hall on Thursday\, April 20 at 7:00 p.m. \n\nBut wait\, there's more! In addition to the author visits\, we've curated an assortment of events to enrich your experience of the book\, and to enjoy whether you read the book or not. \n\n\n Discover your hidden talent for sketching nature with a class meant for people who think they can't draw and established artists alike.\n Discuss the book in all its intricacies with other readers.\n Enjoy being outside\, whoever you are and whatever your ability\, because everyone belongs in the outdoors.\n Find out how you can take control of sourcing your food and simultaneously help the environment.\n Explore the wonders of bees and other pollinators and learn how to help them survive and thrive.\n Cook up something sweet using honey.\n Learn about bees and how you can support them in your own backyard.\n Drink in the wonders of bees\, honey\, and our shared cultural experience - especially via mead. Bonus: One of these events will be held at Hierophant Meadery and includes a tour and optional mead tasting for adults over 21 years.\n\n\nWhidbey Reads is funded through generous donations from the Whidbey Community Foundation and the Friends of the Clinton\, Coupeville\, Freeland\, Langley\, and Oak Harbor libraries\, and is supported by the Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation.\n\n\n\nForty-four-year-old Alice Holtzman is stuck in a dead-end job\, bereft of family\, and now reeling from the unexpected death of her husband. Alice has begun having panic attacks whenever she thinks about how her life hasn't turned out the way she dreamed. Even the beloved honeybees she raises in her spare time aren't helping her feel better these days.\n\nIn the grip of a panic attack\, she nearly collides with Jake a troubled\, paraplegic teenager with the tallest mohawk in Hood River County while carrying 120\,000 honeybees in the back of her pickup truck. Charmed by Jake's sincere interest in her bees and seeking to rescue him from his toxic home life\, Alice surprises herself by inviting Jake to her farm.\n\nAnd then there's Harry\, a twenty-four-year-old with debilitating social anxiety who is desperate for work. When he applies to Alice's ad for part-time farm help\, he's shocked to find himself hired. As an unexpected friendship blossoms among Alice\, Jake\, and Harry\, a nefarious pesticide company moves to town\, threatening the local honeybee population and illuminating deep-seated corruption in the community.
